In the Vietnamese cooking of Hop Phan’s family, avocados were meant for sweet, not savory dishes. But in high school, his Mexican friends handed him a taste of the fruit mashed with salt and spicy beef in a tortilla. The shock of that first bite of a taco quickly turned to awe, not to mention a love affair with cultural culinary tourism.

Girl Scout Cookie Brawl

31 year old woman goes to jail for aggravated battery with an assault weapon over thin mints. Pure ridiculousness.

Quoted directly from KTLA News:

“A woman in Naples, Florida is behind bars for allegedly beating up her roommate in a dispute over Girl Scout cookies.

Hersha Howard, 31, has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Police say she busted into Jasmin Wanke’s room while she was sleeping, and accused Wanke of eating her Thin Mints.

Howard allegedly jumped on Wanke and hit her in the face.

Wanke’s husband separated the two women, but after he left the room, Howard allegedly chased Wanke downstairs with a pair of scissors and bit her in the breast.

The two women made their way outside, where Howard allegedly hit Wanke with a sign.”

Hold The Beef

By now im sure everyones heard of the lawsuit against Taco Bell an their alleged 33% beef in their products. Doesnt sound very appetizing does it? I love Taco Bell to be honest, its probably my favorite fast food chain.

Taco Bell released this statement this week:

“We start with USDA-inspected quality beef (88%). Then add water to keep it juicy and moist (3%). Mix in Mexican spices and flavors, including salt, chili pepper, onion powder, tomato powder, sugar, garlic powder, and cocoa powder (4%). Combine a little oats, caramelized sugar, yeast, citric acid, and other ingredients that contribute to the flavor, moisture, consistency, and quality of our seasoned beef (5%).”

First we all have to remember, Taco Bell IS a fast food restaurant. Its not anymore healthy then most of our fast food chains here. But whatever the percentage of the beef in their producets, they make it damn good! lol

Where Babies Come From

Apparently Memphis High School knows how to make babies! About 90 of their students at Frayser High School are pregnant or have recently given birth. The entire community has a high teen pregnancy rate. This is pretty unbelievable stuff.

Four Loko Converted to Ethanol

Last month we talked a little about the Four Loko ban. Theres still cans of it available on the East Coast but we found out what theyre doing with those cans. East Coast supplies are being shipped to Virginia and converted into Ethanol! Crazy right? Heres the full scoop quoted from Gizmodo.com

“Four Loko, the recently-banned alcoholic energy drink may be a scarely-available resource, but depending on who you ask, all those unused cans of Loko haven’t gone to waste: Orphaned cans along the East Coast are now being converted to Ethanol.

Nearly 200 truckloads of Four Loko are en route to MXI Environmental Services, located in Virginia, to be repurposed into a form of energy that isn’t youthful recklessness. According to the AP the plant is currently able to process four truckloads a day of the drink, with each truckload containing 2000 cases of Four Loko. Each case has 12 cans of the drink, and each can hold 23.5 oz. That’s roughly 4.8 MILLION unconsumed cans of Four Loko holding 900 gallons of the super fun time tasty beverage. Loko fiends everywhere are shedding tears over that revelation, I promise you.”

Happy New Years

Last night was my first New Years experience on the Las Vegas Strip. It was beyond sardines crowded, 25 degree weather, couldn’t go in or out of hotels, and no where to pee. Sounds bad, well it was pretty bad, but the people made up for it. It was a huge celebration that I could only compare to the volume of Times Square New York. We hope everyone had an amazing start to their New Year 2k11. Share with us your New Years experiences.

Big Bear Route Shut Down

Snowboarding season is here and everyone is heading out to the slopes. If you’re an avid boarder or ski bunny then this might slow you down a bit. Highway 330 to get into the San Bernardino Mountains closed down after the big storm caused a huge sinkhole in the road. It caved in about a week ago at the 35 mile marker. Highway 330 is the main road to Big Bear, Arrowhead and Running Springs. You can still take a longer detour around from Highway 38.

Amazing isnt it? Luckily no one was hurt.
