This past summer, Malibu has been testing out a new lifeguard, Emily. Emily is an automated machine that travels at 28mphs through the roughest waters. It also has a camera and speakers that will let calm you down and instruct you to hold on as you get ferried back to shore. Pretty cool huh?

Emily will go on sale next spring for $3,500, says Tony Mulligan, CEO of Hydronalix, an Arizona based company building the bots. I can see the pros and cons of having this device but in my opinion a bot doesnt have the experience a human can develop but a human doesnt have sonar. So both real lifeguards and Emily would be pretty awesome!
